DJ Name: Jenna3Fires | DJ Jenna
Location: Kalamazoo, Michigan USA |
Jenna began DJ’ing in 2004 shortly after finishing up her college degrees. Although she was busy with her internships and college, she was no stranger to dance floors spanning across the Midwest. She spent what free time that she had seeking out musical gatherings where she could dance and listen to a different drum beat.
Her earliest influences to House Music came from the ‘Club-340’ weekly events put on at ‘Club Soda’ by DJ Drop and E-House. The music that DJ Drop and EHouse played made her shoulders shake and head bounce without even knowing it.
She had a spectacular view from the dj-booth where she could watch her friends manipulate vinyl records. Although she wanted to go out and immediately purchase some records and equipment, she decided to wait until her college studies where done so that she didn’t get distracted. This decision proved to be wise at such a tender age.
One evening in her last college semester she told her brother, Moses, that she was interested in making mixed-cd’s compiled of her favorite tracks with vinyl records. Within days, her brother Moses dropped off his turntables after he upgraded to some newer ones. It wasn’t long afterwards that she purchased (2) Technics-1210M5G’s, a Pioneer DJM-909, and a JBL Portable Audio System.
She had a strong influence early on in her DJ’ing by Chris Pappas (DJ Gemini). Her biggest influences today are DJ Draw (BumpCafe), DJ Psycho (Irrational Muzikwerx), LittleWillieLove (SoulFuelMusic), and C.Roy (SonicSynergy).
Jenna3Fires has played all-age social soirees at the Kalamazoo Institute of Arts, Arcus Depot, neighborhood block parties, and at the SmartShop Metalworking Arts Center. She has also played many Kalamazoo clubs including; Taverna Ouzo’s, Boomerang’s, Metro Nightclub, WildBull, Sushiya, Papa Petes/Blue Dolphin, The Strutt, and the Zoo Bar.
Although she holds many memorable moments, her favorite performance was at an event called “Forging Peace” that occurred at the Smartshop Metal Arts Center alongside her SoulFuelMusic family in December 2005. This event continues once a year, occurring on the first Friday in December during the Kalamazoo Art Hop.
Jenna has stayed very busy with her career in the engineering design of building systems; comprising of HVAC, Plumbing, Fire Protection, Electrical Lighting and Power. Recently she has advanced her career into the 3D graphics world of Building Information Modeling & Virtual Design and Construction. She has also taught a Drafting class at Kalamazoo Valley Community College and is an active member of the KVCC Design & Drafting Advisory Board
Balancing such a demanding workload and her passion for music is not always easy but she takes it all in stride. Jenna is ready to rock out at the nearest dancefloor, stage, rooftop, lounge, or grassy nole.
Jenna specializes in mixing vinyl records. She’s known mainly for banging out House music, yet has been known to venture into breakbeats, drum-and-bass, and/or dubstep.
“My goal is to make lots of different mixes that are meaningful to me, so that by the time I retire, I will have an arsenal of vinyl records and mixed-cd’s. Enough to just sit back in my rocking chair and bang some beats in the middle of the woods.”
